Not quite the season

[Here is a Ri. He has been given an unexpected day off from his construction work, as well as no classes to deal with. Left with nothing to do, he figures he can try and do something nice. Like make dinner! Yes. This is an excellent idea. Ri is puttering around the kitchen, and open cookbook on the counter, and trying to make something easy. Like a roast. That's just burned meat, right?]

{ And in this room, sleeping through the afternoon is a Sora who is currently unaware that his shift at the coffee shop is fast approaching. He hasn't set his alarm on his cell phone, so it's looking likely that he's going to sleep right through it. ]

[maybe Sora will wake up once he catches the whiff of something burning, along with the sound of pots crashing together in the kitchen]

[ He eventually does hear the clanging, and slowly begins to wake up, rubbing the sleep from his eyes and trying to make his brain catch up, looking at his phone. ]

[Sora will be in for an unpleasant surprise if he looks into the kitchen]

[ He will eventually make his way there, rubbing his eyes still and searching for a snack. Should he have worn a hazmat suit ]

[Nothing is hopelessly on fire yet! But there's something smoldering on the stove. Ri doesn't notice because his back is turned as he attempts to mix something in a bowl.]

[ Sora notices this almost immediately, and goes to take the pan off of the heat and turn on the fan, because omg smoke. His voice is still sleepy when he speaks, coming over to look at what you're mixing. ]

You look busy.

[you probably don't want to know what Ri is attempting to mix together]

Sora! I'm making dinner so you don't have to. Unexpected day off.

[ He'll be strong. ]

Really? That's awesome! I want to be off, too. What are you making?

Well, it's only a day off because some materials didn't get delivered. I think the cargo ship got caught up in some rough waters or something. I'll probably be working late once the stuff does come in.

And I'm making a roast! And bread.

[Ri pauses and looks down at what he's mixing; it looks more like lumpy questionable soup really]

Isn't it supposed to get hard when you bake it? It'll be fine.

[ Sora just sort of stares at it for a minute, and then looks at you. ]

I don't think this is going to bake, Ri. And what's the green stuff in it?

Herbs! And other healthy stuff. You're always telling me I should eat healthier.

Ri, that is a ton of thyme and basil.

[ He has his reservations, but he will just... let this play out and see how it ends up. ]

I think you need more of the bread flour, though. It's too soupy.

I changed Kira's too since I saw there were new ones

I followed the directions! I bet it'll look better once I let it rise. I have to cover it with a towel and stuff and it gets bigger.

Yup! I've got a nice big one right there. I just need to rub spices on it and trow it in a pan and it's good to go.

[yes, on the formerly clean counter, sitting on one of those Styrofoam trays, is a nice big bloody slab of roast]

Ri! You can't... ugh there's blood splattered on the counter! You need to put that thing in a roast pan!

[ flailing! it's dripping on the flooor toooo ]

Wha-- I'll clean up after I'm done cooking! I haven't even put the spices on it yet!

Ri, you need to cut the vegetables too. Here. We have carrots and onions in the fridge. Wash your hands first, and get the big stock pot out of the bottom drawer. I'll help you get started, okay?

[ omggggg. ]

I'm not gonna cut the vegetables on top of the meat! And I already peeled the potatoes and carrots.

[that's what the destruction on the table in the breakfast nook type place is]

You need to cut onions, too. Now, get the pot out and put some olive oil in it. Just enough to coat the bottom of the pan.

[ Sora gets out the onions and... looks for a clean cutting board to chop them really quickly. ]

Right. Oil in a pan.

[the cutting boards are clean because Ri was probably using the counters and tabletop for that]

Yup. And we put the onions and carrots in first to brown them. They'll cook with the roast in the pot.

[ It's cooking 101! And Sora hasn't yet realized that he has just an hour to get ready and get to work, but he's enjoying himself even if it means herding you in the right direction regarding your cooking skills. ]

Right. I knew that. It's in the book.

[you better stop him and the oil before this turns into deep fat frying]

Just a drop, Ri. That's more than enough. Now, put these onions in the pan and let them get a little brown with the carrots. Then, take everything out and put it on this plate, here.

[ He's getting the beef stock out to deglaze the pan~ ]

Oh. Yeah.

[Ri will obediently toss everything in the pan fire fire buuuuuuuuuuuuuuurnnnn]

I must sleep z___z don't forget Daylight Savings!

[ Puts out a heat-proof bowl for the veggies and watches you like a hawk. ]

[ Sora will be gathering seasonings; rosemary, salt, pepper and thyme for the meat! ]

I am now making a roast too bc it sounded good :x

Okay! Take them out and put them in a bowl for a minute, and add your roast so you can sear it top and bottom.

XD no roast for me i think i'll have soup and salad

[Ri will carefully fish out the veggies, but then there will be a heavy thunk as he drops the roast into the pan... look at all that sizzling and fat spitting!]

[ Sora stands back from the spray of HOT OIL OMG and puts on oven mitts to cover the oil with all of the meat. ]

Be careful when the oil is hot, Ri! Now... what next. Oh! Could you go find the beef stock? It should be on the shelf with the cereal and oatmeal.

i haven't eaten yet .-. but we have baked potato soup

*gurgles from pillow hell* I have like, fourteen pillows to make this week.

Good. I just took the roast out, so pour that in while it's still hot!

[ He has the whisk ready for deglazing action! ]
